Adoption Facilitators versus Adoption Agencies

Using an adoption facilitator can be such a problem and so risky that the U.S. government advises birth parents and adopting families not to use a facilitator.

Adoption Agents and Facilitators

Adoption facilitators are individuals, or groups of individuals, that match you and your baby with with an adopting family and then they withdraw from the situation and leave you and the adopting family to fend for yourselves. Unlike a licensed child adoption agency that will help you from start to finish, and even be there for you after the placement and adoption, most child adoption facilitators are not licensed.

Complaints regarding adoption facilitators are so common that the U.S. Government Department of State and many state authorities strongly recommend obtaining the services of a licensed adoption agency and avoiding adoption facilitators. You can see their recommendation on the link Important Notice Regarding Adoption Agents and Facilitators.  You can also visit the link adoption facilitator on the AdoptionServices.org website.

The improper use of a paid adoption facilitator or intermediary could have a negative impact on the finalization of an adoption.  In many states the state adoption law makes the use of paid adoption facilitators illegal.
